Whooping Cranes
Wild Whooping Cranes on Migration.

Whooping Cranes were last sighted in Iowa at the turn of the century. Their numbers along with sandhill cranes were in the tens of thousands. Currently, these five whooping cranes are just part of the 200+ whooping cranes that make up the world's total populaton. Thanks to conservation efforts and the restoration of many of Iowa's historic wetlands by the Wetland Reserve Program, images like this are now possible in Iowa.
