The bison rut is winding down and the survivors are returning to their wintering range. However, the losers remain where
the battles were fought and lost. Pictured below, members of the Canyon pack feud with a grizzly bear over the remains of
a bison in Hayden Valley. The Northern Range predators are also taking advantage of the bison rut for there have been
four bison fatalities in the last few weeks. Bears and wolves can be seen feeding at dawn and dusk but usually retreat during
the heat of the day.
